This car is an excellent example of the roots of custom and rodding. The 34 Ford began its customized life in 1948 built in Emmaus Pa. The builder worked for near by Mack Truck. He was the second owner of the car which is still titled as a 1934 Ford.
This custom was always in transition as evidenced by a change to the rear. The builder was influenced by the new 53 Corvette and fashioned his own corvette style from round tubing and 1950 Pontiac lenses! The original engine was a fullhouse flathead that got “blown” while playing in 1957. It was replaced with a brand new 57 Chevy 283 from a then recent total.
Terry Bean lived down the street from the original builder and rode his bicycle past the “production” garage as a kid. He later also worked for Mack trucks and recalled the car he saw come to life and went to the widow in 1994 to inquire about it. She opened up the garage to reveal the 34 Ford custom hidden away since the builders death in 1974. He is the 3rd owner of the car still titled as a 1934 Ford.
